What are the differences between normal glass and borosilicate glass?

Recently, I received an email from one client asking about the differences between normal and borosilicate glass, and I thought maybe I should write an article that can answer this question.

The main differences between normal and the borosilicate glass are:

1. normal glass is usually more thicker and heavier than borosilicate glass.

2. normal glass can have a variety of color options, but borosilicate glass can only have amber, green, blue, milky white and smoked grey colors.

3. borosilicate glass is usually more expensive than normal glass if they are the same shape. This is mainly because the raw material of borosilicate glass is more expensive.

4. borosilicate glass can have many speical shape. For instance, like double walled glass is made of borosilicate glass. In addition, it is more easily to make holes on the borosilicate glass

5. borosilicate glass is high temperature resistant glass while the normal glasses are not. This is why many teapot and cups are made of borosilicate glass.
